All too often we forget our origins and our deep connection to the natural world in which we live. Spending time outside and in nature allows us to reconnect with a greater part of ourselves and others. This is in part what makes adventure therapy so special.
Adventure therapy is facilitated by a licensed mental health professional and most often takes place in a natural outdoor setting. Unlike traditional talk therapy, adventure therapy provides an opportunity for you to actively participate in and experience your therapeutic process. During a session you are invited to engage in novel experiences that are likely to elicit automatic and genuine responses from you. This provides you the opportunity to more easily recognize unhealthy or unhelpful responses and learn how to modify these responses in real time with the guidance of your therapist, and to later translate the changes into your daily life.
